Are you in search of organic chicken feed for your poultry? You have come to the right place. What we have here, are some simple homemade chicken feed recipes that will end your search.
Nowadays, people are seen making conscious efforts to go organic. Now that shouldn't really come as a surprise considering that organic practices are not just beneficial for us, but are equally beneficial for the environment.
In fact, some people have even gone a step further and replaced traditional chicken feed with organic feed.
Organic chicken feeds are readily available in the market, but they are a little expensive. More importantly, not all the products that claim to be organic are made of organic ingredients. If you are to deal with both the issues, the best way out is to prepare organic feed on your own. Here are some recipes, which only use organic ingredients.
Recipe 1
Ingredients
3 parts soft white wheat
3 parts hard red winter wheat
2 parts whole corn (increase it to 3 or 4 parts in winter)
1 part sunflower seeds (in winter this is increased to 2 parts)
1 part oat groats
1 part millet
1 part kamut
1 part amaranth seeds
1 part split peas
1 part lentils
1 part quinoa
1 part sesame seeds
1 part hulled barley
½ part kelp granules
½ part flax seeds
Crushed oyster shell
Granite grit
Process
You will need 6 bins for storing these ingredients. Store corn in the first bin, white and red wheat in second bin, barley in third, oat groats in fourth, sunflower seeds in fifth, and the rest of beans and grains in the last bin.
Oyster shell and granite can be kept in their respective bags. Whenever you need the feed, simply take the required parts into a 5 gallon bucket, mix them, and use.
Recipe 2
Ingredients
3 parts hard red winter wheat
3 parts soft white wheat
3 parts millet
2 parts whole corn
2 part sunflower seeds
1 part hulled barley
1 part split peas
1 part lentils
1 part quinoa
1 part sesame seeds
1 part wheat bran
1 part oat groats
½ part kelp
½ part peanuts
½ part Diatomaceous Earth
Process
Simply pour all these ingredients together in a big container and mix it thoroughly with your hand. You can prepare and keep it and use anytime you want. (Tip: Run your hand through the mixture before feeding the chicken to ensure that no particular ingredient settles down.)
Recipe 3
Ingredients
3 to 4 parts organic whole corn
2 to 3 parts whole organic wheat
1 part fish meal
1 part dried organic milk
1 part oyster shell
1 part grit
½ part cod liver oil
½ part salt
Process
Like the earlier recipes, prepare a mixture by mixing all these ingredients together and use it to feed the chicken whenever necessary. In case of this recipe, the feed cannot be stored for too long. In either case, make sure that you only use fresh ingredients to prepare the feed. Stale feed is but obviously low in nutritional value.
As you must have seen, making organic chicken feed is quite easy. All you have to do is to buy the ingredients and mix them together! If you want healthy chicken, then make it a point to give them fresh feed on a regular basis.
