Mythical Significance
As per Hindu mythology, blackbuck is the animal that draws Lord Krishna's chariot, which is why it is called Krishna Mrig in Sanskrit. The animal is also the mount of gods Vayu (wind) and Chandra (moon).

Threatened Species
PETA has listed blackbuck as an “extremely vulnerable species”. This creature is on the Endangered list in India and is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
